Who we are, what we do and why we need you!

Who are we?

SSAFA is a national charity helping and supporting those who serve in our Armed Forces, those who used to serve and the families of both. One day’s paid service in any of our Armed Forces is all that is needed to qualify for assistance from SSAFA. Our Northamptonshire Branch is one of 92 branches and 65 Service Committees worldwide.

What do we do?

SSAFA works to ensure that the needs of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families are met and we as a charity, exist to relieve need, suffering and distress amongst the Armed Forces, veterans and their families in order to support their independence and dignity.

The support and guidance our caseworkers provide to individuals and their families can help people access a variety of services. These service could include: finding support for families with children who have an additional need, providing guidance on managing debt or securing financial assistance to provide white goods for their home. These examples are just a few, and serve to provide a view of what we do.

In contacting us for support or guidance at the branch office, you will often speak to Katy our Branch Administrator who will record your enquiry and help find answers your questions.

Could you help too?

We rely on dedicated team of volunteers to manage cases; this is well over 200 per year. Volunteers are at the heart of what we do and we need people to join us. We are always looking for new volunteers to help with our growing numbers of cases.

There a range of volunteering opportunities that can suit the amount of time you are able to commit to from a few hours a month to a dedicated number of hours per week. Here is a list of some of the opportunities we are currently recruiting to:

  • Branch Helper
  • Branch Visitor
  • Case Worker
  • Branch Publicity Officer

Although the central office for the county is based in Northampton, we work across the county. This means that you can be based geographically where it is most suitable for you.

If you think you could dedicate time to working with SSAFA we would love to hear from you. Find more information on our website.
